Making Multifunctional BBQ Stove – Foldable, Portable & Automatic Skewer Rotation

Barbecue is one of the best ways to enjoy time with family and friends. But what if you could take your BBQ experience to the next level with a DIY multifunctional BBQ stove that is not only portable but also comes with features you’ll never find in regular grills?

In this article, I’ll share how I built a multi-purpose BBQ stove from scratch using scrap parts, and why it’s the ultimate outdoor cooking solution for backyard parties, camping, and family gatherings.

🔧 Key Features of My Multifunctional BBQ Stove

1. Foldable Legs – Three Cooking Positions

The stove legs are fully foldable, allowing you to barbecue in three positions:

Ground position (traditional style, perfect for picnics and specially in winter season you are sit around and enjoy the BBQ grilling).

Sitting-on-chair position (comfortable backyard cooking).

Standing position (great for large BBQ events).

This makes it highly versatile and easy to use in any situation.

2. Automatic Skewer Rotation

No more manually rotating skewers! I designed a high torque DC motor system connected to a bike timing sprocket and chain. The skewers rotate smoothly and evenly, ensuring:

✅ Juicy, perfectly cooked barbecue.

✅ Adjustable rotation speed for full control.

3. Dual-Function Blower Fan

A custom-made blower fan is used for two important purposes:

Airflow control – provides the right amount of air to the coals for quick and proper cooking.

Fire starter – placed on a separate portable stand to ignite the coals effortlessly.

4. Adjustable Coals Tray

The coal tray height are adjustable. we are able to adjust hight easily with the help of handle. This allows you to:

Increase or decrease heat as needed.

Prevent your barbecue from burning.

Cook everything from kebabs to steaks with precision.

5. Foldable Wooden Side Table

A foldable side table is attached to keep your oil, brush, and spices handy. I also integrated the on/off button and motor speed controller into the same wooden table for easy operation.

6. Removable Coals Tray

Cleaning up after BBQ is always a hassle. That’s why I designed the coals tray to be removable,  making it easy to dump ash and coals after cooking. Also no need to wait for the stove to cool down.

7. 12V DC Powered – Indoor & Outdoor Friendly

The stove operates on 12V DC, which means:

Use a rechargeable battery or car USB charger for outdoor trips.

Or simply connect it to a 12V charger in your backyard.

Portable enough to carry in a car, so you can enjoy BBQ anywhere—on a riverbank, dam, beach, or backyard.

🎯 Why This BBQ Stove is Different

Most store-bought BBQ grills are limited to one style of cooking. My DIY stove combines portability, foldability, automation, and flexibility in one design. It’s perfect for those who love DIY projects, outdoor cooking, and unique inventions.

📌 Final Thoughts

This multifunctional BBQ stove proves that with a little creativity, you can build something that beats commercial grills. Whether it’s foldable legs, automatic rotisserie, adjustable coal tray, or blower fan, this design has everything for the perfect BBQ.

So next time you plan a picnic or backyard party, take this stove along—you’ll love the difference it makes!

How to Make a Gear based Heavy Duty Drill Press from Scrap Materials | High Torque & Energy-Saving DIY Machine

In this post, I’ll show you how I built a powerful, gear-driven drill press using mostly scrap materials, including a low-power washing machine motor that’s why machine save lot of energy. Machine have very high torque due to gear box. This DIY machine delivers factory level precision at a fraction of the cost. If you’re a budget builder or home engineer, this is the perfect project for you!

Watch the full build on my YouTube channel here:https://youtu.be/MG8STZVjwI0

Materials Used (Mostly Scrap)

One of the best parts of this project is that it’s extremely budget-friendly. Nearly all components were recycled or salvaged, including:

Washing machine motor (32 slots, 0.5 hp)

Gearbox (old 70cc bike transmission gears, transmission gears shafts and clutch driven gears).

Steel rods & U shape metal sheet (main structure)

Scrap metal sheets (for base and table)

Nut bolts and bearings (reused from junk parts)

Measuring tape & scale (cut and fitted for depth stopper)

Two way switch (on/off and reverse)

10uf motor capacitor

Power cable.

Peace of wood( for handle knobs)

Concrete mix (used inside base for stability)

Pipe (drill pillar)

Drill chuck( 3.175 to 15.875mm)

PVC Pipe(PVC Sheets for body work)

Return spring(quill spring)

Key Features of the Drill Press

1. Gear Based Power Transmission

The drill press runs on a custom gear mechanism that significantly increases torque. This design ensures:

Smooth drilling through tough materials

Low stress on the motor

Long-lasting performance

Energy saving

2. Low-Power, High-Efficiency Motor

I used a washing machine motor that consumes only 1.1 to 1.2 amps during drilling.

That means this machine is energy-efficient and runs on very low power, ideal for regular use at workshop.

3. Custom Depth Stopper with Scale

The machine features a depth stopper with an attached measurement scale, allowing you to:

Adjustable drilling depth with required measurement.

Repeat drilling operations with consistency

4. Adjustable Drilling Table

The table can be adjusted both in height and angle, allowing for:

Straight, angled, and compound angle drilling(degree drilling)

Flexible work with different project types and materials

5. Custom Return Spring Assembly

A DIY return spring mechanism was added with quill spring to help the drill bit retract automatically and smoothly, just like in commercial models.

6. Reinforced Concrete-Filled Base

The base of the drill press is made with:

Thick scrap metal sheets

Reinforced with welded rods inside

Filled with concrete to eliminate vibration and improve stability

This solid base gives the machine a professional factory feel, even though it's completely homemade.

7. Forward and Reverse Drilling Feature

This drill press also includes a manual switch for forward and reverse rotation, allowing you to:

Remove stuck drill bits easily

Use left-handed drill bits

Tap threads (with tapping bit)

Back out from deep holes cleanly

Performance Test

Test Material

Result

Steel--Smooth and fast drilling

Hard wood--Smooth and stable drilling

Mild steel--No stalling, clean cut

Aluminum--Fast and accurate

Plastic--No vibration, clean holes

Average Power Consumption: 1.1 – 1.2 Amps only no overloading while drilling

Torque: Very high, handles heavy-duty tasks easily

This drill press proves that with some creativity and basic tools, you can build a powerful, energy-efficient, and precise machine all while keeping costs extremely low.

Whether you're a DIY hobbyist or someone who wants to avoid expensive factory tools, this build can save you money and give you control over your tools.
